Alexis Mac Allister has made an impressive start to the season, but Liverpool’s stance on a new contract remains unchanged.
The Argentine admitted he was “very sad” at not receiving an extension beyond 2028, having watched Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch sign new deals.
The 27-year-old remains hopeful of earning an offer through his performances but accepts that the club “are the ones who run things and make the decisions.”
According to The Telegraph’s Dominic King, Liverpool are still “not in any rush to start talking about new contracts” with Mac Allister’s representatives.
With 20 months remaining on his current deal, next summer could prove pivotal. Liverpool must decide whether to offer him an extension, sell him for a guaranteed fee or risk losing him on a free transfer.
Alexis Mac Allister is doing his part to justify a longer stay at Anfield, registering four goals and one assist while playing the sixth-most minutes of any Liverpool player under Andoni Iraola so far (742).
After admitting he “was not at the level” required last season and being linked with a summer move, the midfielder looks revitalised and determined to help Liverpool compete for silverware again.
With contract talks seemingly on hold, Mac Allister must continue making his case on the pitch.
Following his latest goalscoring display, he told Amazon Prime that Iraola had addressed the issues that plagued Liverpool during Arne Slot’s final campaign.
“Last year was a really difficult year for all of us,” he said. “It was clear that I was not at the level. I am the first one to say [that], I have no problem.
“Something wasn’t right in the group. This manager changed it, and that’s really important.
“The way we play it is quite different. I don’t like to compare. I’m feeling good, that’s what I want, and that’s what I enjoy.”
