Liverpool set to face PSG in Champions League quarter-final if they knock out Galatasaray

The Reds return to Anfield needing a win to progress after last week’s 1-0 defeat in Istanbul.

If Liverpool overturn their 1-0 deficit against Galatasaray, they will face Paris Saint-Germain for a second consecutive season in the Champions League knockout stages.

The Reds return to Anfield needing a win to progress after last week’s 1-0 defeat in Istanbul.

Should Arne Slot’s side succeed, they will meet PSG, who advanced past Chelsea with an 8-2 aggregate win in the round of 16.

Luis Enrique’s team traded goals with Chelsea in the first leg before scoring three late goals to secure a 5-2 advantage.

In the second leg, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Bradley Barcola scored two early goals, with Senny Mayulu completing a 3-0 victory, sending PSG through emphatically.

“I think today we showed once again that we truly are a team that can play in different ways and which is always unpredictable for our opponents,” Enrique said.

Liverpool and PSG most recently met last season in the round of 16, with the tie decided on penalties after both sides won 1-0 away.

Slot has frequently referenced the French side this season, describing the tie as “my football,” a remark that has frustrated supporters given last year’s outcome.

The Reds managed just four shots on target across 210 minutes against the eventual Champions League winners, raising questions about their attacking potency this season.

However, the focus must first be on getting past Galatasaray at Anfield.

The Champions League quarter-finals will be played next month, with the winner set to face either Real Madrid or the victor of Bayern Munich vs. Atalanta in the semi-finals.

If Liverpool progress, they will host the second leg against PSG at Anfield.
