Liverpool enter preliminary talks with Tottenham over potential sale of Andy Robertson

Robertson has been in discussions with Liverpool over a new deal, but no agreement has been reached

Liverpool have held preliminary talks with Tottenham Hotspur over a potential January sale of Andy Robertson, following an official approach from Spurs for the 31-year-old, who is out of contract in the summer.

Robertson has been in discussions with Liverpool over a new deal, but no agreement has been reached, prompting Tottenham to make a surprise move to strengthen Thomas Frank’s squad.

While no decision has been made, Liverpool are mindful that the Scotland international could leave for free at the end of the season.

The left-back has lost his regular starting spot this campaign to 22-year-old Milos Kerkez, starting just 11 matches, though Liverpool are unlikely to sanction a move if it leaves them short in the position.

Kostas Tsimikas could be recalled from his Roma loan if needed, according to Liverpool Echo.

Robertson has made 363 appearances for Liverpool since joining from Hull City in 2017.

Tottenham are keen to add experience to their squad, with Andy Robertson viewed as a proven winner.

Spurs are short at left-back after Ben Davies suffered a serious ankle injury requiring surgery, and another addition would allow Djed Spence to return to his natural right-sided role.

They are also looking to boost their homegrown quota as they push toward the Champions League knockout stages.

While Spurs have signed 19-year-old left-back Souza from Santos, he is seen as a development player rather than an immediate solution.
