Manchester United star Luke Shaw suffers set-back in recovery from calf injury
Luke Shaw is yet to feature for Manchester United this season
Manchester United defender Luke Shaw has encountered another setback in his recovery from a calf injury.
Luke Shaw, who hasn’t played for United in 254 days, still managed to feature for England three times during the European Championship, including starts in both the semi-final and final.
The 29-year-old initially sustained a calf strain during his first week back in pre-season training, after missing the final three months of last season with a torn hamstring.
In his pre-match press conference for the League Cup tie against Leicester, Erik ten Hag – speaking after United’s recent defeat to West Ham – was asked about Shaw’s progress in recovery.
“The process is not going as we expected,” Ten Hag said.
“That’s the truth.
“The setback, if you want to call it like this, we want also to do it very careful.
“When he is now dropping again, we want to be very careful.
“We know his past, we have to do this right, because we want him to be available, because he will have a big impact on our performances and also on our levels.
“We can’t have him playing for some games and then drop out again.
“So, we will do it very carefully.”
Sacked-Erik ten Hag did not anticipate any injured players returning in time for Manchester United’s clash against Leicester City at Old Trafford.
In his absence, Ruud van Nistelrooy will step in as caretaker manager for the first time
