Manchester United among host of clubs interested in signing Barcelona’s Dani Olmo

The Spanish international has impressed in his 15 appearances so far this season, scoring six goals, but Barcelona has been unable to extend his registration beyond 2024

Manchester United are reportedly among several top clubs interested in signing Dani Olmo on a free transfer after Barcelona’s latest attempt to register the player for the second half of the season was rejected by La Liga.

Olmo, who joined Barcelona from RB Leipzig over the summer for a fee of around £50million, was initially registered only until the end of 2024 due to Barcelona’s ongoing financial difficulties.

The Spanish international has impressed in his 15 appearances so far this season, scoring six goals, but Barcelona has been unable to extend his registration beyond 2024.

La Liga has already rejected two attempts and an appeal from Barcelona to secure Olmo’s registration, citing non-compliance with its economic control regulations.

In a statement released on Tuesday evening, La Liga said: “FC Barcelona has not presented any alternative that, in compliance with La Liga’s economic control regulations, would allow it to register any player after 2 January.”

Despite the setbacks, Barcelona have not given up hope. The club announced that they have applied for a new license from the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) to register Dani Olmo and teammate Pau Victor.

The outcome of this latest effort remains uncertain, and clubs across Europe are closely monitoring the situation.

Recent reports suggest that Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Tottenham, Paris Saint-Germain, and Bayern Munich are among the suitors interested in securing Olmo’s signature.

Manchester United, in particular, are in dire need of reinforcements.

Red Devils manager Ruben Amorim has acknowledged the precarious position his side is in, even suggesting there is a “possibility” they could face relegation if their poor form continues.

However, financial constraints could hamper United’s ability to make moves in January unless they offload players first.

When asked about the potential for strengthening his squad in January, Amorim admitted: “We don’t have that possibility in January, if we don’t take [sell] some players. So you know the situation better than I am.

“So it’s not the case that I am arriving here and I can spend a lot of money changing all the team. You know the situation, so it’s not a point to talk about it.”
