Manchester United ‘ready to part company’ with Erik Ten Hag

Man United lost 2-1 to West Ham over the weekend

Manchester United are preparing to part ways with Erik Ten Hag and have been in discussions with potential successors in recent weeks, according to TBR Football.

United’s recent loss to West Ham United marked yet another disappointing result in what is shaping up to be one of their worst seasons in memory.

The team has managed just one win in their last eight matches and has secured only seven victories from 23 Premier League appearances.

Additionally, their performance in Europe has been dismal, with only one win in 11 games.

As a result, many within the club are beginning to accept that a managerial change is imminent.

It is claimed that the prevailing sentiment at Old Trafford is more about “when” Ten Hag will leave rather than “if.”

Reports suggest that senior United officials have spoken to up to three candidates in recent weeks, with sporting director Dan Ashworth holding the final decision-making power.

It has been made clear that United do not intend to pursue a long-term interim appointment to succeed Ten Hag.

Despite the financial implications of paying him off, they are prepared to offer compensation to secure their new manager.

One name under consideration is Germany’s national team coach, Julian Nagelsmann, who was previously evaluated before Ten Hag was awarded a new contract ahead of this season.

Brentford’s Thomas Frank is also highly regarded and was interviewed in the summer, along with Thomas Tuchel, who has since taken charge of the England national team.

United also hold significant admiration for Xabi Alonso and Ruben Amorim, although both are expected to remain with Bayer Leverkusen and Sporting Lisbon, respectively, until the end of the current campaign.

In recent weeks, the club has been presented with several managerial candidates, including Simone Inzaghi of Inter Milan, Newcastle’s Eddie Howe, and former Barcelona head coach Xavi.

It is evident that co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos have numerous options available.

It is believed that the 3-0 home defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in September was a pivotal moment for United’s hierarchy.

The loss to Spurs was deemed unacceptable, prompting the club’s football department to actively seek a successor.

Currently, Manchester United sits 14th in the Premier League table.

Club legend Gary Neville believes that Ten Hag is facing an insurmountable situation, and this weekend’s clash against Chelsea could very well be his final game in charge.

“Erik ten Hag is asking for trouble. He’s 14th in the league nine games in, and nine games is nearly 25 per cent of the season gone,” he said on Sky Sports.

“They are 14th, they’ve spent a fortune. I was quite clear at the end of last season that if they’re in that same position in the league after the first few months there will be a lot of questions being asked.

“They’ve got a game in midweek but it will all come down to next weekend’s game against Chelsea.
