Morgan Rogers set for Chelsea after £117m agreement with Aston Villa

Personal terms have already been agreed on a six-year contract until 2032, with the option of a further 12 months, while a medical is scheduled for Monday

Chelsea have reached a verbal agreement with Aston Villa to sign midfielder Morgan Rogers, according to The Athletic.

The Blues have seen a £117million bid accepted for the England international, although the deal is still being finalised.

Personal terms have already been agreed on a six-year contract until 2032, with the option of a further 12 months, while a medical is scheduled for Monday.

Morgan Rogers is keen on the move, with new Chelsea head coach Xabi Alonso and the club’s long-term project playing a key role in his decision.

Arsenal were also interested in signing the 23-year-old, but Chelsea have won the race for his signature. Rogers had been expected to leave Villa this summer despite signing a new contract until 2030 in November 2024.

The attacking midfielder joined Aston Villa from Middlesbrough in February 2024 for an initial £7million, with a further £8million in add-ons. Middlesbrough also negotiated a 20 per cent sell-on clause as part of the deal.

A product of the Manchester City and West Bromwich Albion academies, Rogers has developed into one of the Premier League’s standout attacking midfielders.

He has scored 31 goals and provided 29 assists in 125 appearances for Villa, including 14 goals and 12 assists in 55 matches during the 2025-26 season as Unai Emery’s side secured Champions League qualification and won the Europa League.

Rogers earned his first senior England call-up in November 2024 and has featured in all six of the Three Lions’ World Cup matches, registering the assist for Anthony Gordon’s goal in the semi-final defeat to Argentina.

He will remain with the England squad for Saturday’s third-place play-off against France.

Chelsea have tracked Rogers for some time and view him as an ideal addition because of his versatility and ball-carrying ability.

Villa had accepted that Rogers could leave this summer, but only for a fee in excess of £100million.

The Midlands club are expected to reinvest the money, with Ibrahim Mbaye and Crysencio Summerville among their winger targets, while they have already strengthened by signing Johan Manzambi and Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Joao Gomes.
