Pep Guardiola is confident that Manchester City will continue to thrive, even if he follows Txiki Begiristain out of the exit door at the end of the season.
Begiristain recently announced his decision to leave his role as sporting director this summer, concluding a significant 13-year tenure at the Etihad Stadium.
Hugo Viana has been named as his successor and will begin some duties in February before taking over permanently after completing his season with Sporting in the Portuguese league.
Replacing Begiristain, who has been instrumental in Man City’s success over the past 15 years, will be a formidable challenge.
Meanwhile, the football world eagerly awaits Guardiola’s decision regarding his future, as his contract is set to expire at the end of the season. There has been no indication yet as to whether he will extend his stay at the club.
Premier League rivals are keenly anticipating the day Guardiola steps away, as his exceptional leadership has led City to claim the last four titles and six of the last seven.
In contrast, Manchester United, once the dominant force under the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson, has struggled to compete for the league title since his departure in 2013.
While Pep Guardiola refrained from commenting on United’s challenges, he emphasised that the foundations laid at the Etihad will ensure Manchester City avoid a similar decline when he eventually departs, even if that happens simultaneously with Begiristain’s exit.
“I don’t know what happened but it’s not going to happen. I know how it works,” he said.
“It will be a bad sign for the club if after just one person leaves and everything is dragged down.
“Maybe they will make mistakes, but during the mistakes they will solve it.
“Then the mistakes will be solved immediately, that is for sure.
“The guys know exactly what they have to do.
“When it is going bad they will find the solutions immediately.
“They will be patient, calm and know what they have to do.
“Absolutely, I don’t have doubts about that.
“With Txiki for 12 years and my case, it is normal that it looks like we cannot leave, but of course we can move on. Life moves on.
“The earth continues round.”
