Pep Guardiola sends warning new incoming Man United coach Ruben Amorim

Amorim's Sporting came from behind to record a 4-1 victory over City in the Champions League

Pep Guardiola reminded Ruben Amorim that he won’t be able to claim another victory over him in this season’s Champions League after Amorim takes over at Manchester United.

Amorim’s Sporting CP stunned Manchester City with a remarkable 4-1 comeback win in the Champions League.

Phil Foden gave Man City the lead inside the first five minutes, but a hat-trick from Viktor Gyökeres and a goal from Maxi Araujo turned the game in Sporting’s favour.

The victory boosts the Portuguese side’s hopes of advancing to the knockout stages of Europe’s premier competition.

They currently sit second in their group, although other teams could surpass them with wins on Wednesday, as the top eight teams automatically progress to the Round of 16.

However, by the time the knockout rounds begin, Amorim will have switched leagues.

He is set to take over as Manchester United’s manager on November 11.

Guardiola, whose Man City side are aiming for silverware this season, wasted no time in pointing out the different goals the two Manchester clubs have for the campaign.

“We will face them two times in the Premier League and maybe the FA Cup.

“In the Champions League it is not possible,” Pep Guardiola said of Amorim’s United following his team’s defeat.

The first league meeting between Manchester City and Manchester United will take place on December 14 at the Etihad Stadium.

The two rivals won’t meet at Old Trafford until early April, by which time both teams will have a clearer picture of their aspirations, whether for the title race or securing European qualification.

In recent years, the FA Cup finals have been dominated by Manchester, with each club claiming one victory in the past two seasons.

However, as Guardiola points out, United’s eighth-place finish under Erik ten Hag last season means that while Amorim can still compete for Europa League glory, he won’t have the opportunity to challenge for this season’s Champions League with his new club.
