Rhys Williams to leave Liverpool upon expiration of his contract at the end of June

Having been with the club since U10 level, Williams progressed through the Academy system and made 19 appearances for the senior team

Rhys Williams will leave Liverpool when his contract expires at the end of June, the club have confirmed.

Having been with the club since U10 level, Williams progressed through the Academy system and made 19 appearances for the senior team.

The centre-back was part of Liverpool’s FA Youth Cup-winning squad in 2019 before enjoying a breakthrough season under Jürgen Klopp during the 2020-21 campaign.

Williams made his debut in September 2020, starting in a 7-2 win over Lincoln City in the third round of the Carabao Cup.

Amid an injury crisis in defence, he went on to feature 18 more times that season, helping Liverpool secure Champions League qualification with a third-place Premier League finish.

During his time at Anfield, Williams also had loan spells with Kidderminster Harriers FC, Swansea City, Blackpool, Aberdeen, Port Vale and Morecambe FC.

Rhys Williams posted on social media: “From signing as a nine-year-old boy, to leaving as a 25-year-old man. This club has let me fulfil things that dreams are made of.

“It’s been an honour to wear this shirt, rub shoulders with legends and play for the greatest set of fans in the world.

“Thank you to all the players, staff and everyone who’s had a part to play along the way.

“I will be forever grateful to have represented this club. Thank you, Liverpool. YNWA.”
