Roy Keane slams Trent Alexander-Arnold after England defender scores in Finland win

Roy Keane offered a scathing critique of Trent Alexander-Arnold’s defensive performance following England’s match against Finland.

Keane targeted Alexander-Arnold after England’s surprising 2-1 defeat to Greece on Thursday.

He highlighted concerns about his defensive abilities, despite the right-back’s attacking contributions.

The Liverpool player has struggled to secure a consistent role within the England squad, often being utilised in midfield under Gareth Southgate.

However, Alexander-Arnold made an impressive impact by scoring a stunning free-kick against Finland, having started at left-back for the first time in his career.

When it was pointed out that he had never played left-back for England or Liverpool before, Roy Keane said: “If you saw him the other night [against Greece] defending, it looked like he’d never played right-back before.”

Keane continued to criticize the 26-year-old’s defensive abilities following England’s 3-1 victory.

“I still can’t believe how bad he is defensively and against a quality team he’s going to get found out,” the former Manchester United midfielder said.

While his attacking prowess has never been in doubt, Alexander-Arnold is consistently scrutinized for his defensive contributions.

Whether playing for Liverpool or the England national team, the defender often faces criticism regarding his performances at the back.

Despite this, Real Madrid remain interested in him and may seek to make a move, especially with his contract set to expire next summer.

After returning from Helsinki with a goal, the Liverpool defender is set to line up at Anfield against Chelsea next Sunday.

The Reds currently sit at the top of the Premier League, but they will face a resurgent Blues side eager to secure a statement victory.
