Ruben Amorim expected to be confirmed as Manchester United boss today

Amorim has agreed to become Man United's new manager

Binge Football understands that Ruben Amorim is expected to be confirmed as Manchester United’s head coach today.

The Red Devils have reached a full agreement with Sporting Lisbon to appoint Amorim to replace Erik ten Hag.

Following a dismal start to the season, which sees Man United languishing in 14th place in the Premier League, executives made the decision to sack Ten Hag on Monday.

Ruud van Nistelrooy has been appointed as the caretaker manager and led United to a thrilling 5-2 victory against Leicester City in the Carabao Cup.

It was anticipated that Amorim would either be in the dugout or watching from the stands for Sunday’s match against Chelsea, but Van Nistelrooy will remain in charge for three more games.

Man United’s £10million agreement with Sporting Lisbon allows Amorim to continue in his current role until the international break, having negotiated around his 30-day notice period.

Sporting also have three fixtures to complete during this time, starting with a match against Estrela da Amadora on Friday, followed by a Champions League clash with Manchester City next Tuesday.

Ruben Amorim will then bid farewell to Sporting with a match against his former club, Braga, on Sunday, November 10.

His first game in charge of Manchester United is scheduled for away against Ipswich Town on Sunday, November 24.

In that match, the Red Devils will face former coach Kieran McKenna at Portman Road, looking to build on any momentum gained under Van Nistelrooy.

After the Chelsea match, Van Nistelrooy’s squad will compete against Greek side PAOK Thessaloniki next Thursday in the Europa League, where they are still seeking their first victory.

Man United’s fourth consecutive home game will feature a Premier League encounter against Leicester City.

Once Amorim takes the helm, Van Nistelrooy hopes to continue contributing, having returned to Old Trafford as an assistant coach under Ten Hag last summer.

“Of course – I came here as an assistant to help the club,” Van Nistelrooy declared after guiding his side to victory.

“Now in this role, I’m helping as long as needed.

“In the future in any capacity, I’m here to help the club further to build towards the future – that’s what I’m here for.”
