Ruud van Nistelrooy provides positive injury news on five Manchester United players
Luke Shaw and Leny Yoro are nearing a return to action after resuming training
Manchester United interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy has delivered an encouraging injury update ahead of their upcoming clash with Leicester, revealing that Luke Shaw and Leny Yoro are nearing a return to action after resuming training.
Both players have been sidelined for the entire season, with Shaw struggling with multiple setbacks in his recovery from a calf injury, while Yoro underwent surgery to address an issue with his foot.
However, Van Nistelrooy shared positive news on their recovery, a boost that will be well received by incoming manager Ruben Amorim, who is eager to make an immediate impact at Old Trafford.
The Dutchman led United to a 2-0 victory over PAOK in the Europa League on Thursday, a match in which Mason Mount made his long-awaited return, playing the final 10 minutes of the game.
Mount’s appearance marked his first action since suffering a hamstring injury in September.
Van Nistelrooy expressed optimism about the team’s progress, noting that United are gradually regaining full fitness, with Manuel Ugarte and Christian Eriksen also gaining crucial minutes in the match.
Ruud van Nistelrooy said: “Yesterday we had a lot of benefit from Christian playing 30 mins with Ugarte and Mason making his first minutes again, so glad they are back and for a little bit of a longer future that Luke and Leny are on the pitch.”
Amad Diallo, who scored in the win over the Greek side, is on track to be fit for the upcoming match against Leicester, despite being forced off about ten minutes before the final whistle.
The interim coach also mentioned that Kobbie Mainoo is in a strong position to return to action after the international break.
“Amad was assessed, still working on him to get him ready for Sunday, so hopefully it will work and Kobbie is also progressing with his injury,” he said.
“He isn’t yet with the team, though. He needs more time.”
