Tottenham dismiss West Ham 4-1 in a Thrilling London Derby

Three second half goals saw Tottenham beat London rivals West Ham convincingly in Ange's first London derby win

Tottenham Hotspur secured a convincing 4-1 victory over West Ham United in a fiercely contested London derby
at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The match saw a flurry of goals, with both sides showcasing their attacking
prowess before Tottenham ultimately dominated the second half to secure their first London derby win under
manager Ange Postecoglou.

The match began with West Ham taking an early lead in the 17th minute through a well-taken goal by Mohamed Kudus. The Ghanaian midfielder received a precise through ball from Lucas Paqueta and slotted the ball past a diving Guglielmo Vicario in the Tottenham goal. West Ham’s early goal set the tone for a tense and exciting first half.

Tottenham, however, responded swiftly. In the 36th minute, Dejan Kulusevski leveled the score for the hosts with
a powerful shot from just outside the penalty area. The Swedish winger received a pass from James Maddison and unleashed a well-placed strike that left West Ham goalkeeper Alphonse Areola with no chance.

The second half saw Tottenham take control of the match. They emerged from the break with renewed energy and intensity. In the 52nd minute, Yves Bissouma put Spurs ahead with a thunderous strike. The Malian midfielder received a pass from Son Heung-min and unleashed a powerful low shot that ripped into the back of the net.

Just three minutes later, Tottenham extended their lead to 3-1 through an unfortunate own goal by West Ham goalkeeper, Areola. A deflected cross from the left flank found its way to the France international goalkeeper, who turned the ball into his net in a mixup with teammate Todibo while attempting to clear. This goal effectively put the game beyond West Ham’s reach.

Spurs turned further heat on their London rivals in search of more goals. In the 60th minute, Tottenham captain Son Heung-min put the game to bed with a trademark goal. The South Korean forward received a pass from Pape Matar Sarr, cut inside, and curled the ball past Areola with a precise shot that left the West Ham goalkeeper with no chance. Son’s goal secured Tottenham’s victory and demonstrated his continued importance to the team.

Mohamed Kudus twice attempted to get West Ham back in the game with two quick succession chances, but his efforts were thwarted away by Vicario to keep the healthy scoreline for Spurs. The Ghana forward soon got himself into trouble. He was sent off for taking out three Spurs players in frustration. He appeared to twice kick Micky Van de Ven, before pushing his hands into the defender’s face after a melee. He was also seen brushing the faces of Richarliso and Pape Matar Sarr in an incident that was missed by referee Andy Madley. The initial yellow card for the foul on Van de Ven was upgraded to red for West Ham’s no.14 after referee Madley was asked by the VAR to have a look at the incident for himself.

Tottenham’svictory was made even sweeter by the fact that it was Ange Postecoglou’s first London derby win as

Spurs manager. The Australian coach has implemented a new style of play at Tottenham, emphasizing attacking
football and high pressing. The victory against West Ham was a testament to the progress that Tottenham have
made under Postecoglou’s guidance.

While Tottenham’s attack stole the headlines, their defense also played a crucial role in the victory. Tottenham’s
the back line, led by Vicario and Cristian Romero, held firm against West Ham’s attacking threats.
