Trent Alexander-Arnold has been forced to withdraw from the England squad following an injury sustained during the weekend.
The Liverpool vice-captain was substituted in the first half of the Reds’ 2-0 Premier League victory over Aston Villa on Saturday.
“It’s difficult to say how serious it is, but it’s always serious if a player goes out in the first half,” Slot told his post-match press conference.
“Not because I didn’t like him, but because he asked for it himself.
“He didn’t ask for it because he was tired, he asked for it because he felt something.
“That’s first of all not a good sign, but it is always difficult so close after the game to tell you exactly what it is. Let’s wait and see.
“I would be surprised if we will see him playing for the England national team this week, but hopefully he can.”
England have confirmed that Trent Alexander-Arnold will not join up with Lee Carsley’s squad for their upcoming UEFA Nations League fixtures.
The Three Lions, which include Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones, will travel to Greece on Thursday before returning to host the Republic of Ireland on Sunday.
Alexander-Arnold has not been ruled out of Liverpool’s Premier League match against rock-bottom Southampton on Sunday, November 24.
Following that, the Reds face a crucial home Champions League tie against Real Madrid before welcoming Premier League champions Manchester City the following weekend.
Liverpool currently sit five points clear of Man City at the top of the table.
Alexander-Arnold has been playing through a side strain sustained during England’s UEFA Nations League victory over Finland last month, where he also scored his third international goal.
The news that the right-back won’t face a prolonged absence is a major boost for Liverpool manager Arne Slot, who is already missing key players, including first-choice goalkeeper Alisson Becker, midfielder Harvey Elliott, and forwards Diogo Jota and Federico Chiesa.
While Jota is expected to return in early December, no specific timeline has been given for the return of Elliott or Chiesa.
