Trey Nyoni in advanced talks with Liverpool over contract extension

Trey Nyoni has since made 11 appearances in all competitions for Liverpool this season

Trey Nyoni is in advanced talks with Liverpool over a contract extension, according to The Athletic.

The 19-year-old has been discussing his future with the club for months, with hopes that a breakthrough will follow soon.

Although a new deal has yet to be finalised, there is optimism that an agreement will be reached.

Liverpool are keen to reward the young midfielder with improved terms as he continues to impress under Andoni Iraola.

A £30million bid from Nottingham Forest was rejected over the summer, with Iraola making it clear that the England Under-21 international would play a key role in his plans.

Nyoni has since made 11 appearances in all competitions, including his first Premier League start against Arsenal on Sunday, where he impressed in a deep-lying midfield role.

He is also in the squad for Wednesday’s Champions League clash against Fenerbahce and is expected to feature, with Ryan Gravenberch sidelined through injury and Dominik Szoboszlai still building his match fitness following a hamstring issue.

Iraola said, ahead of the Fenerbahce match, that Nyoni is “in a very good place”.

“Trey just has to continue in the same way as since the beginning of pre-season, be ready for all of the games,” he added.

“We trust him, he’s doing very well. We have to encourage him to continue learning, improving and getting experience. But he’s in a very good place.”

Trey Nyoni last signed an improved multi-year contract in June 2025, shortly after turning 18, although the exact length of the deal was not disclosed.

He is understood to have more than three-and-a-half years remaining, but Liverpool are keen to extend his stay as he continues to establish himself as one of the club’s most promising young talents alongside Rio Ngumoha.
