Victor Munoz cuts summer break short to report for Liverpool pre-season

Despite not featuring at the World Cup, Spain’s success meant Munoz was not expected back until around August 10

Victor Munoz will cut short his summer break and return for pre-season training early next week, with Andoni Iraola welcoming the decision.

Despite not featuring at the World Cup, Spain’s success meant Munoz was not expected back until around August 10. Under FIFA rules, he was entitled to at least three weeks off, leaving him with less than two weeks to settle before the Premier League season began.

However, Iraola confirmed on the club’s official website that the 23-year-old will report to the AXA Training Centre after the US tour.

His early return provides a boost as Liverpool look to reintegrate senior players after relying heavily on academy talent during pre-season.

Victor Munoz missed Spain’s World Cup campaign due to injury issues but was declared fit before the final and is expected to join full training immediately.

“Yes, he comes next week,” Iraola said.

“We spoke to him, and he wanted also to come a little bit earlier than the three weeks that they have the right to have, because obviously he is coming to a new club, he will need some time to adapt, to meet his teammates.

“We will have him next week as soon as we arrive there, basically. It’s good news.”
