Virgil van Dijk has reaffirmed his commitment to Liverpool amid speculation linking him with a move to Real Madrid.
The 33-year-old delivered another commanding performance on Wednesday night, leading the Reds’ defense in a 2-0 Champions League victory over Real Madrid at Anfield.
However, after the match, the Dutchman faced probing questions from a Spanish journalist about his future on Merseyside.
Van Dijk’s contract with Liverpool runs until June 30, 2025, but with no agreement yet on an extension, speculation about his next move has started to grow.
Sensing an opportunity, a reporter from El Chiringuito asked if the defender would consider a switch to Carlo Ancelotti’s side.
Caught off guard, Van Dijk was quick to dismiss the notion, making it clear that his focus remains firmly on Liverpool.
When asked whether he sees himself staying at Anfield next summer, the Dutch international responded: “What a direct question from you! They don’t ask me that directly [in England].
“But listen, there is, at the moment, nothing I can say. The only thing that I can say is I’m fully focused on Man City from now on.”
“Do they? I don’t know.” When pushed again, he added: “But [Antonio] Rudiger is there, no?”
“When? In the summer? Like I said to you before, the main focus at the moment, for me, is Man City. Liverpool, I’m fully focused on that, and I have nothing else to say regarding my future.”
