Alexander Isak ‘delighted’ as Liverpool see off Brighton

Alexander Isak scored his sixth Premier League goal of the season

Alexander Isak was left delighted after Liverpool’s 2-0 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday.

The Reds’ No. 9 scored his sixth Premier League goal of the season with a typically clinical finish to put his side two goals ahead by the 21st minute at Anfield.

Isak’s strike came shortly after Pascal Gross’s own goal, as Andoni Iraola’s side secured their fourth consecutive victory across all competitions.

Liverpool went into the match still searching for their first home win of the Premier League campaign.

Isak told Sky Sports post-match: “For sure, it’s been way too long [waiting for a Premier League victory at Anfield] and I think it’s a great way to do it: against an in-form team, and the way we did it as well, with a clean sheet. So yeah, delighted.”

Bradley Barcola provided the assist for Isak’s predatory finish and Alexander Isak added: “We had a lot of chances [in the] first half, where we won the ball and countered, we could have had more goals.

“Bradley did super good in that and for me it was just about being in the right place to finish it off.”

Liverpool now sit fourth in the Premier League table, one point behind Brighton, and will face reigning champions Arsenal next weekend, with the Gunners six points ahead of the Reds.

When asked if Iraola’s side are clicking into gear, Isak replied: “I hope so.

“I think today especially the performance was really good, really solid against a really good team. The first half is really what we want to be about – intensity, winning balls and countering – so really happy, especially with the first half.”
