Alexander Isak finally opens up on Liverpool move

Isak completed a British-record £125m move to Liverpool from Newcastle on transfer deadline day this month

Alexander Isak has hinted that there is more to the story behind his summer transfer from Newcastle to Liverpool, saying “not everyone has the full picture” after making his first appearance of the season.

The striker came on as a second-half substitute in Sweden’s 2-0 World Cup qualifying defeat to Kosovo in Pristina on Monday.

Isak completed a British-record £125m move to Liverpool from Newcastle on transfer deadline day this month, ending a prolonged transfer saga.

Speaking to Swedish media, he said: “Not everyone has the full picture, but that’s something for another day.

“I can’t control everything that’s said or written. But I’m happy that I became a Liverpool player.”

Coming on for Newcastle’s Anthony Elanga in the 72nd minute with Sweden trailing 2-0, Isak registered three shots, two on target, and received a yellow card after clashing with Kosovo’s Fidan Aliti.

“It’s great that everything was settled before the camp so I could focus on playing football again,” Isak added.

“It’s been a fairly new situation for me, but you always learn and develop mentally off the pitch as well.”

Isak had refused to participate in Newcastle’s pre-season friendlies and the start of their season, and he was an unused substitute in Sweden’s 2-2 qualifying draw against Slovenia on Friday.

“He had only done three training sessions with the team,” Sweden manager Jon Dahl Tomasson told Viaplay.

Goals from Elvis Rexhbecaj and Vedat Muriqi earned Kosovo their first points in Group B, while Lindon Emerllahu was sent off in stoppage time for a second yellow card.

Switzerland currently top the group, with Kosovo second and Sweden third.
