Alexander Isak is set to return to Liverpool from international duty after suffering a minor injury.
The striker will miss Sweden’s three remaining fixtures during the current international break and will now be assessed by Liverpool’s medical staff at the AXA Training Centre.
Liverpool’s season resumes on Sunday, October 11, when Manchester City visit Anfield.
Alexander Isak scored in Sweden’s hard-fought 2-1 victory over Romania but picked up a foot injury during the second half after a heavy challenge.
The incident left his boot covered in blood, and he was visibly limping after the final whistle.
Speaking to reporters in the mixed zone, the 27-year-old confirmed he had suffered a painful blow but remained calm about the injury. Liverpool will now assess his condition ahead of their return to Premier League action.
“You can see it…,” he noted while looking down at his bloodied toe, as cited by Aftonbladet.
“It was a real stamp. Those of you who have played might know that it takes a few minutes before it lets go, but it was okay.”
Despite the injury scare, Isak’s evening was defined by his clinical finishing in the first half. He opened the scoring for Sweden after a pinpoint delivery from Yasin Ayari, who has emerged as a key creative presence in midfield.
Isak was quick to praise his teammate for the quality of the assist, saying: “He put it on a plate. It was fantastic.”
The goal continues a strong start to the season for the former Newcastle striker, who has rediscovered his form at Liverpool following a difficult debut campaign at Anfield.
He has already scored four goals in five Premier League appearances this season, twice his total from the previous campaign.
His latest goal for Sweden further underlines his return to form and will provide a boost to the national team as they look to build momentum.
Isak has also highlighted the importance of maintaining his scoring form to his confidence and mental sharpness during a busy run of fixtures.
