Alisson Becker contract extension triggered by Liverpool ahead of Tottenham clash

Alisson signed a five-year deal in 2021 that included a clause allowing the club to extend the agreement by a further year.

Liverpool have triggered their option to extend Alisson Becker’s contract by 12 months, ensuring the goalkeeper’s stay at Anfield will stretch to nine years.

Alisson signed a five-year deal in 2021 that included a clause allowing the club to extend the agreement by a further year.

As expected, Liverpool have now activated that option to prevent the goalkeeper from potentially leaving on a free transfer at the end of the season.

Speaking to WinWin on Saturday evening, Alisson’s agent Ze Maria Ness confirmed the news by stating: “We have just renewed the contract with Liverpool.”

The Brazilian recently stated his intention to remain with the Reds beyond the current campaign, having been a major success since arriving from Roma for £65 million in the summer of 2018.

The 33-year-old has racked up 330 appearances in all competitions and collected numerous honours during his time at the club.

However, Alisson Becker has struggled with hamstring injuries in recent years and was forced to miss Tuesday’s Champions League Round of 16 first-leg defeat to Galatasaray due to an issue sustained in training the previous day.

Despite the setback, Arne Slot is confident the goalkeeper will return between the sticks for Sunday’s Premier League clash at home against Tottenham Hotspur.

It has already been a busy year for Liverpool regarding contract discussions. Ryan Gravenberch agreed a new six-year deal last week, while Dominik Szoboszlai remains in talks over a potential extension.

Meanwhile, both Ibrahima Konate and Andy Robertson, whose current deals expire in the summer, are also in negotiations over possible new contracts.
