Arne Slot has insisted that Mohamed Salah’s uncertain future “doesn’t worry” him, even as speculation over the forward’s contract continues.
Salah has been a pivotal figure for Liverpool during Slot’s debut season as manager, propelling the team to the top of both the Premier League and the Champions League standings.
However, the Egyptian star’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season, allowing him to negotiate with overseas clubs starting January 1.
While Salah recently hinted that he was “more out than in” regarding his future with Liverpool, reports over the weekend suggested that he has agreed to a new deal.
The 31-year-old underlined his importance once again on Tuesday night, scoring the decisive goal in Liverpool’s victory over Girona.
Salah remains one of the first names on Slot’s teamsheet, but the Dutch manager has opted to stay tight-lipped about the forward’s long-term plans.
“It doesn’t worry me, we just accept the situation as it is. They play at a very good club and do very well at the moment,” Arne Slot said on Friday when asked about the futures of Salah and duo Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, whose contracts also expire in the summer.
“I work with a lot of quality players over here and Mo is definitely one of them.
“He is one that should score goals.
“He is also part of the reason we keep as many clean sheets as we do.
“We’re going to face Fulham now.
“We should have a much better performance against them to get a result.
“You can only take points from these games if you have quality yourself.
“Against Arsenal, they only conceded from a set-piece.”
