Arsenal monitoring Newcastle striker Alexander Isak ahead of January transfer

Since his arrival from Real Sociedad in August 2022 for a club-record fee, Isak has made a significant impact at St James' Park

Arsenal are closely following developments at Newcastle United as striker Alexander Isak continues contract negotiations with the club.

Since his arrival from Real Sociedad in August 2022 for a club-record fee, Isak has made a significant impact at St James’ Park.

The Sweden international’s impressive performances have led to speculation about his future, with Arsenal reportedly keeping an eye on the situation as the forward has yet to commit to a long-term deal with the Magpies.

Isak’s current contract runs until 2028, but discussions regarding an extension are ongoing.

According to Sky Germany, Arsenal are “monitoring the situation,” with the striker on their list of potential options to bolster the squad.

The Gunners have been linked with several forwards as they seek to address a potential lack of a clinical finisher, including Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres – Isak’s Sweden teammate – and RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko.

With the prospect of Newcastle missing out on a top-four finish again this season, Isak could be tempted to leave St James’ Park.

During the recent international break, Alexander Isak remained tight-lipped about his future, further fueling speculation surrounding his next move.

He told Fotbal Skanalen: “Throughout my career, I have never talked about or really commented on the move rumours during the season.

“There have been many such years where it has been talked about. It doesn’t affect me.

“The only thing I can say is that a lot of information and rumours often come out.

“Much of what I read is not true. So that’s about all I can say about the whole thing.”

Arsenal will go up against reported transfer target Viktor Gyokeres when they face Sporting in the Champions League this week.

The striker has been in superb form, scoring five goals in four Champions League appearances so far this season. Gyökeres will be looking to add to his tally as he takes on the Gunners.
