Arsenal centre-back William Saliba has agreed a new contract with the club, with the deal expected to be signed in the coming days.
The Gunners Ahad opened talks to extend Saliba’s stay beyond June 2027, when his current terms were due to expire.
Real Madrid had shown interest in the Frenchman, but in March he made clear his desire to remain in north London and win trophies with the Gunners, whose most recent silverware came with the 2020 FA Cup.
Asked in July about his contract situation, Saliba said: “Yes, hopefully – of course there is nothing now but there is a good conversation with my agent and the club.
“Let’s see.”
The 24-year-old has been instrumental in Arsenal’s defensive strength over the past two seasons, helping them boast the Premier League’s best record at the back.
He made 51 appearances in all competitions last term as Mikel Arteta’s side finished second in the league for a third straight year and reached the Champions League semi-finals.
Saliba joined Arsenal from Saint-Étienne in 2019 before loan spells with Nice and Marseille.
Since establishing himself as a first-team regular, he has become one of the most important figures in Arteta’s system.
He now follows a number of teammates in committing their futures to the club.
Centre-back partner Gabriel signed new terms in June, while Leandro Trossard, Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly have also penned fresh deals in recent months.
