Arsenal and Man Utd on alert as Benjamin Sesko’s Leipzig release clause revealed
Despite having extended his deal with Leipzig until 2029, Sesko remains a target for high-profile teams
Benjamin Sesko’s contract with RB Leipzig includes a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ that could reignite interest from top clubs like Arsenal and Manchester United.
Despite having extended his deal with Leipzig until 2029, Sesko remains a target for high-profile teams.
Benjamin Sesko’s contract extension may only delay his inevitable departure, with transfer rumours surrounding the 21-year-old likely to resurface at the end of the season.
Arsenal were heavily linked with Sesko in the summer, but manager Mikel Arteta opted to stick with his current attacking options.
This decision could come back to haunt the Gunners, who are now facing a tough challenge at the top of the Premier League standings.
Meanwhile, Manchester United, who had also shown interest in the Slovenian, may reconsider their position as Rasmus Højlund’s performances have yet to convince them he is the long-term solution at striker.
Both Arsenal and Manchester United are expected to be back in the hunt for Sesko next summer, and they now have an idea of how much it will take to secure his services.
According to journalist Florian Plettenberg, the ‘gentleman’s agreement’ in Sesko’s Leipzig contract does not include a traditional release clause.
However, it stipulates that Leipzig will engage in negotiations if an offer in the range of €70-75 million (£58m-62m) is received.
He posted on X: “We cannot confirm the report about a €90m release clause for RB Leipzig’s Benjamin #Šeško next summer ❌
“However, there has been a gentleman’s agreement as part of his contract extension.
“Understand there is no written, fixed clause for the coming summer.
“The agreement states that RB would be open to discussions at €70-75 million if the player wants to take the next step.
Sesko has impressed this season, scoring seven goals across all competitions, although his form has dipped recently, with just one goal in his last seven matches.
The striker now turns his focus to international duty, as Slovenia prepare to face Norway and Austria in next week’s Nations League.
