Barcelona eye move for Liverpool star Mohamed Salah
Salah has less than one-year left on his contract
Barcelona are reportedly considering an opportunistic approach for Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah, who could become a free agent at the end of the season.
Despite a managerial change and entering the latter stages of his career at 32, Salah has continued to deliver for Liverpool in the 2024/25 season.
With 16 direct goal involvements in 15 appearances across all competitions, he has proven crucial to the team’s success.
According to SPORT, Salah’s name has resurfaced in discussions among Barcelona officials, following previous interest in 2022.
However, at that time, Liverpool’s asking price and Salah’s wage demands prevented any deal from materialising.
Although Barcelona’s top priority remains signing Nico Williams, whom they couldn’t afford last summer, the situation could change if Salah becomes available for free.
If Salah does not agree to a new contract with Liverpool, he could leave without a transfer fee.
SPORT also reports that Mohamed Salah is open to a change of scenery and has expressed an interest in Barcelona.
However, Liverpool are eager to keep the Egyptian international and secure an extension to his current deal.
Additionally, the prospect of a move to the Saudi Pro League remains, which could provide Salah with multiple options when the summer transfer window opens.
The forward has yet to make a definitive decision on his future. After scoring the match-winner against Brighton on Saturday, Salah addressed his uncertain future, stating: “No matter what happens, I will never forget what scoring at Anfield feels like.”
Earlier this week, Liverpool boss Arne Slot praised Salah, comparing him to footballing legends Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo for his ability to maintain elite performance levels well into his thirties.
“There is no reason at the moment to think that he is dropping in terms of level,” Slot said.
“That’s not what you see when you look at his numbers or what you see when he plays.
“I cannot tell you what the future will look like.
“Cristiano Ronaldo, what age is he at the moment?
“Messi is still incredible. Incredible.”
