Chelsea told to sign Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez

Martínez, currently at Aston Villa, has been the subject of speculation as the Blues assess their goalkeeping options

Chelsea have been linked with a potential move for Emiliano Martínez, with the World Cup-winning goalkeeper viewed as an upgrade to current No.1 Robert Sánchez.

Martínez, currently at Aston Villa, has been the subject of speculation as the Blues assess their goalkeeping options.

The 32-year-old Argentine played a pivotal role in Villa’s qualification for the Champions League last season but finds himself in a side struggling to mount another top-four challenge in the 2024-25 campaign under Unai Emery.

The two-time FIFA Best Goalkeeper award winner is reportedly eager to continue testing himself at the highest level, making a move to Chelsea an intriguing possibility.

Chelsea, on the other hand, may soon need a new first-choice goalkeeper.

Sánchez has struggled to impress since his arrival, while backup Filip Jørgensen has been limited to cup competitions.

This has fuelled rumours of a potential shakeup between the posts at Stamford Bridge.

Former Aston Villa striker Darren Bent weighed in on the speculation during a recent appearance on talkSPORT, suggesting that Martínez could make the switch from the West Midlands to west London in 2025.

“I wonder if Aston Villa don’t get back in the Champions League.

“I know he signed a new contract, but could he go?

“The fact is he could play for almost any team he wanted to. Chelsea could get him.”

Emiliano Martínez is contracted to Villa Park until the summer of 2029, making him a costly target.

However, Chelsea, having consistently invested heavily in new signings, will be eager to secure the final pieces needed to complete their Premier League title-winning puzzle.
