Virgil van Dijk has made it clear that he is in no rush to make a decision regarding his Liverpool future, despite entering the final six months of his current contract.
The Reds captain revealed that there has been no movement on a new contract offer, leaving the Dutch defender to focus solely on the present.
Van Dijk, along with Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold, will be free to negotiate with other clubs from next week, which could set the stage for a summer of change at Anfield.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future, the 33-year-old remains calm and insists that his full attention is on helping Liverpool maintain their position at the top of the Premier League.
“There is no deadline at all,” Van Dijk said. “I’ll see what the future holds. I focus fully on Leicester.”
Arne Slot’s side will host Leicester on Boxing Day with a four-point lead and a game in hand, thanks to their most thrilling attacking performance yet in Sunday’s 3-1 win over Tottenham.
Mohamed Salah moved up to fourth on Liverpool’s all-time goalscoring chart with a brace.
In addition to his goals, the Egyptian also provided two assists in a dominant 6-3 victory, where Liverpool could have easily scored even more. Virgil van Dijk added: “His numbers speak for themselves.
“He’s a very special athlete.
“He’s done amazingly for the club and hopefully he can play his best season ever for the club, stay important with his goals and assists.
“We always need a complete performance from him because all the defensive work that he can put in as well is very important for us as the last line.”
But asked if Salah will be able to do it all again next season, Van Dijk simply replied: “I don’t know.”
