Cody Gakpo has revealed that Bayern Munich expressed interest in him during the recent transfer window.
However, the striker says his new contract is proof of his long-term commitment to Liverpool.
Gakpo signed a contract extension, which was officially confirmed on Saturday, despite interest from the Bundesliga champions.
Bayern were reportedly looking for reinforcements up front after missing out on Florian Wirtz, who joined Liverpool, and Athletic Club’s Nico Williams, who also turned down Barcelona to commit to his La Liga side.
Speaking to ESPN in his homeland while on international duty, Gakpo explained how Bayern approached him before eventually turning their attention to Luis Diaz, who completed a £65m move in late July.
The former PSV striker also revealed that it took around a year to finalize the details of a contract that will keep him at Liverpool beyond 2028.
“If the future is uncertain, then it will just be a very difficult story,” Gakpo said.
“I think it took us a year. Maybe a little longer or shorter, but it’s just a long process.
“From what I understand, they (Bayern) have come, but in the end they have bought Luis Diaz.
“It’s nice. Of course, I have experienced it differently myself. Such a transfer window can be hectic and stressful for a player and everyone around him. That doesn’t bother me anymore.
“It’s difficult, because a lot is happening. Other clubs come to you, but you may want to keep your own club.
“Everyone deals with it in their own way, but it is certainly difficult. If the future is uncertain, then it will just be a very difficult story.”
