Liverpool appoint Luiz Fernando Iubel as individual development lead coach

Liverpool FC have confirmed the appointment of Luiz Fernando Iubel to a newly created role focused on the development and transition of the club’s elite young players.

The 36-year-old has joined the Reds as their PDP Individual Development Lead Coach and officially begins work on Merseyside this week.

Iubel brings a wealth of experience in nurturing emerging talent, holding UEFA A, UEFA A Elite Youth, and CONMEBOL Pro licences.

He has served as both head coach and assistant in Brazil’s Serie A, working at clubs including Vasco da Gama, Ceará, Bahia, Ponte Preta, Coritiba, Juventude, Atlético Mineiro, and Cuiabá.

During his time at Cuiabá, he guided the club to the Mato Grosso title in 2024 while serving as interim boss, adding to several state championships on his résumé.

He also boasts international experience, having been a tactical analyst for Germany during their silver-medal campaign at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

At Liverpool, Iubel will serve as a methodological lead for individual development plans, ensuring alignment across the senior team, loan players, U21s, and U18s.

His work will involve close collaboration with Academy coaches to create a seamless pathway from Kirkby to loan spells and ultimately the first team.

He will also liaise directly with the loan support team and other clubs to oversee players’ progress while away from Anfield.

Iubel studied physical education, business administration, and communication at Berea College in the United States, before completing a postgraduate course in high-performance football coaching at the Faculty of Human Kinetics in Lisbon.

A dual citizen of Brazil and Germany, Iubel is fluent in English and Portuguese and has additional knowledge of Spanish and German.
