Cristian Romero backs Ange Postecoglou after Tottenham defeat to Chelsea

This defeat means Postecoglou’s side has won only one of their last seven matches across all competitions, suffering four losses in that span

Tottenham defender Cristian Romero has expressed his support for manager Ange Postecoglou, despite the team’s frustrating 4-3 defeat to Chelsea.

Postecoglou, however, has remained steadfast in his approach, insisting that he will not change his tactics following the loss.

Spurs took an early 2-0 lead within 11 minutes, but Chelsea fought back, with Cole Palmer converting two penalties – both awarded for relatively avoidable fouls committed by Tottenham players.

This defeat means Postecoglou’s side has won only one of their last seven matches across all competitions, suffering four losses in that span.

Currently, Tottenham sit 11th in the Premier League, languishing in the bottom half of the table after 15 games.

Since joining the club in 2021, Romero has now played under five different managers, including interim bosses.

While Postecoglou has enjoyed success at previous clubs, including Celtic, Tottenham remains trophyless since their 2008 League Cup triumph.

Cristian Romero told Telemundo: “He’s a great coach. We saw it in the first season. In this second one we’ve suffered a lot of injuries.

“Players are the first one to be criticised, then if we lose 10 games, the staff can be changed, but nobody talks about what is actually happening.

“We are very happy with this staff, me and my colleagues. We love how they work and the football they try to play. We’ll try to move on quickly.”

Tottenham, under the leadership of chairman Daniel Levy since 2001, started last season brightly with new manager Ange Postecoglou but ultimately finished in fifth place.
