Crystal Palace interested in Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott

Elliott’s development stalled last season after a loan spell at Aston Villa.

Crystal Palace are reportedly interested in Harvey Elliott ahead of his involvement in Liverpool’s pre-season preparations.

Elliott’s development stalled last season after a loan spell at Aston Villa, where he was repeatedly left out because the club reportedly wanted to avoid triggering a £35million obligation to buy if he made 10 Premier League appearances.

Despite his difficult campaign, it is easy to forget the potential he showed earlier in his career.

Jurgen Klopp previously admitted one of his few regrets was not giving Elliott more playing time, saying: “If I regret one thing a little bit, it’s that Harvey didn’t play often enough.”

Now, the 23-year-old is attracting interest from several clubs, with Crystal Palace the latest to be linked.

According to Sky Sports’ Lyall Thomas and Amar Mehta, “Palace are also understood to be monitoring Harvey Elliott’s situation at Liverpool.”

Harvey Elliott remains under contract at Liverpool until next summer. After falling out of favour under Arne Slot, he failed to start a Premier League match before joining Villa on loan, where he managed just 284 minutes in all competitions.

The arrival of Andoni Iraola, however, offers Elliott the chance for a fresh start. He has already been training on Merseyside ahead of pre-season and is expected to feature prominently while many senior players remain on international duty.

Lewis Steele of the Daily Mail has reported that Elliott will be given the opportunity to impress during Liverpool’s pre-season tour of the United States.

Iraola also made it clear in his first interview that every player will start with a clean slate.

“I will tell them, they are all new signings. For me, you are all new signings and I think we have a lot of quality in our squad. I’m really looking forward to working with them.”

Although Harvey Elliott may not be an ideal fit for Iraola’s preferred wide roles, his creativity, versatility and pressing ability could make him a valuable option as cover for Florian Wirtz in the attacking midfield position.

With Liverpool expected to undergo significant changes this summer, Elliott still has a chance to prove he deserves to remain at his boyhood club.
