RB Leipzig dismiss claims Liverpool target Yan Diomande will leave this summer
Liverpool are also assessing a potential move for Bradley Barcola as an alternative to Yan Diomande.
RB Leipzig managing director Marcel Schafer has dismissed suggestions that Liverpool target Yan Diomande will leave the club this summer.
The Leipzig chief also indicated the Bundesliga side are planning to reward the 19-year-old’s rapid development since joining from Leganés last year with a contract extension at the Red Bull Arena.
Earlier this month, Liverpool were understood to be prepared to bid up to £86m for the Ivory Coast international after an impressive season in which he scored 12 Bundesliga goals.
However, reports over the weekend claimed Diomande prefers a move to Paris Saint-Germain, with Leipzig now valuing him closer to £112m if they were to reluctantly sanction a sale.
Speaking to Bild, Schafer insisted Leipzig want to keep hold of the winger and are planning talks with his representatives, Roc Nation Sports, over a new deal.
“Our clear intention is: Yan Diomande will play for RB Leipzig next year,” Schafer said. “In principle, we still have a four-year contract and hold all the cards.
“Therefore, the current developments are primarily a recognition of his performance. Nothing more and nothing less.
“And if we can’t find a solution, then we can’t – but he’ll still have a four-year contract. So, to reiterate: Yan Diomande will remain a Leipzig player.”
Liverpool are also assessing a move for PSG winger Bradley Barcola as an alternative to Yan Diomande.
