Dominik Szoboszlai has confirmed that talks are ongoing with Liverpool over a new contract, but has cautioned that there is no guarantee an agreement will be reached.
The Hungary international is more than halfway through the five-year deal he signed after completing a £60m move from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2023.
Szoboszlai was instrumental in Liverpool’s record-equalling 20th league title last season and has remained one of the club’s standout performers during their challenging title defence this campaign.
While Liverpool are keen to reward his contributions with improved terms, the club have struggled in recent years to finalise new contracts.
Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah only signed extensions when close to free agency last year, Trent Alexander-Arnold departed for Real Madrid, and both Ibrahima Konate and Andy Robertson are currently set to leave on free transfers this summer after negotiations stalled.
Asked if negotiations are ongoing over a new contract, Dominik Szoboszlai said: “Of course, but there are always talks.
“You guys in the media make a lot for the people (public) and you keep on going because that’s your job but there has been talks but for sure not any decision has been made.
“There is always progress but no decision has been made and I’ll just keep on going every week, every training, giving my best for the team, for the fans. Let’s see what is going to happen in the future.
“I am happy here but you know how football works and that is something everybody has to take into account.”
