Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca has stated that Tottenham Hotspur are the favourites heading into Sunday’s London derby, despite recent struggles from Ange Postecoglou’s side.
Spurs have endured a challenging run of form over the past month, securing just two victories since the start of November.
In contrast, Chelsea have been in impressive form this season and currently sit in second place in the Premier League standings.
Despite this, Maresca believes Tottenham will have the advantage when Chelsea travel to north London this weekend.
Speaking to the media, Maresca said: “First of all, the fans are going to be there, no doubt.
“And second, we are not favourite, absolutely not.
“They are playing European competition, like us, we are there.
“But not because we are second in the table, we are favourite, absolutely not.”
Chelsea have emerged as potential Premier League title contenders after a strong start to the season, drawing comparisons to Tottenham’s early promise in the 2023-24 campaign.
However, Spurs eventually faltered and failed to secure a top-four finish.
Despite these parallels, Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has stated that his team is not focusing on Tottenham’s collapse, instead concentrating on their own preparations for the remainder of the season.
He said: “I don’t think we need Ange’s experience or Tottenham’s experience to understand things can change quick. Every season in football, in England, in Spain, in Italy, every country, things can change quick.”
After facing Tottenham, Chelsea will return to Conference League action on Thursday with an away trip to Kazakhstan to take on Astana.
