Fabian Hurzeler reveals how Brighton will approach Liverpool’s game at Anfield
Brighton will take on the Reds for the second time this week
Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler has confirmed that his team will not adopt the same tactics against Liverpool as Nottingham Forest did.
Nuno Espírito Santo’s side is the only team to have defeated Liverpool this season, employing a low block to effectively frustrate Arne Slot’s Reds at Anfield.
Brighton will travel to Anfield on Saturday, just three days after their Carabao Cup fourth-round exit at the hands of the defending champions.
Following this match, the Seagulls are set to host Pep Guardiola’s reigning champions at the Amex Stadium next weekend.
“Now we can prove to ourselves how far we are as a team and how ready we are to really challenge the establishment,” said the German.
“In the end, that’s where we want to go, that’s the ambition from the club.
“That’s our responsibility to show it individually and also as a group if we are ready or not.”
Since head coach Hurzeler replaced Roberto De Zerbi in the summer, Brighton have experienced only one defeat in the top flight – a 4-2 loss to Chelsea at the end of September.
Most recently, the Seagulls faced Liverpool in the cup on Wednesday, where they were defeated 3-2 after both teams made eight changes for the match.
“There were a lot of moments where we were ready, there were a lot of moments where they (the players) felt that we were there but they didn’t make the last step,” Hurzeler said of the midweek loss.
“Hopefully we can improve our performance on Saturday.
“Then we might have a chance to win this game.”
Since Slot took over from Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool have dropped only five points out of a possible 27.
Last weekend, their creditable 2-2 draw against title rivals Arsenal marked the first blemish on the Reds’ record since a surprising 1-0 home defeat to Nottingham Forest on September 14.
“I saw this game, of course Nottingham have a different style of play (to Brighton),” said Fabian Hurzeler.
“It was the early stage of the season, during this period Liverpool have improved a lot.
“They have now several patterns to play different positionings, very fluid in the game.
“They have at the moment two, three players in the offensive role that are in a good shape so it will be very important that we defend together and don’t give them a lot of one against one situations.”
