Liverpool are ‘desperate’ – Fabinho weighs in on Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk contracts situation

Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk have just one year left on their Liverpool contracts

Fabinho has revealed that he hasn’t spoken to his former Liverpool teammates Mohamed Salah or Virgil van Dijk about potentially joining him in Saudi Arabia at the end of their contracts with Anfield.

Salah, Van Dijk, and Trent Alexander-Arnold are all set to become free agents in the summer of 2025, as the Reds have yet to finalise new deals with any of them.

There have been ongoing rumours linking both Salah and Van Dijk to moves to Saudi Arabia.

Fabinho joined a wave of players, including Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, and initially Jordan Henderson, in making the transition to the Saudi Pro League.

Currently, the Brazil international plays for Al-Ittihad, which is second in the league behind Mane’s Al-Hilal.

He disclosed that he hasn’t been in contact with his former teammates, who he believes Liverpool are eager to retain with new contracts.

“I haven’t talked to them lately and to be honest I didn’t see any news about them coming to the Saudi League or leaving Liverpool,” he told FourFourTwo.

“I know that some players like Mo, Virgil and Trent are at the end of their contract, and I think Liverpool are desperate to get them a new contract, but it’s not my problem any more!”

Fabinho has expressed his admiration for Arne Slot following the Dutchman’s appointment as Liverpool boss this summer, succeeding Jurgen Klopp.

The Brazilian is optimistic about the team’s prospects for the current season, highlighting their ambition to compete with Manchester City for the Premier League title.

Fabinho believes that under Slot’s guidance, the Reds have the potential to lift trophies and achieve success in both domestic and European competitions.

“For me it’s normal because Liverpool have one of the best teams in the Premier League and in Europe, so it’s not a surprise for me how well they’re doing at the moment, I think they have everything to fight with Manchester City,” he said.

“Unfortunately Man City are still the team to beat, but Arne Slot is doing a very good job, I really hope Liverpool will keep this run until the end of the season and hopefully bring some important trophies this season.”
