Liverpool showing interest in signing Brighton star next summer
Arne Slot will be looking to strengthen his squad next summer
Liverpool are already being linked with potential new signings ahead of the January transfer window, which is still more than two months away.
The Reds are currently preparing for a double-header against Brighton this week.
Liverpool will face the Seagulls in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night before playing a league match at Anfield on Saturday.
These fixtures may provide Arne Slot’s side with the opportunity to observe one of their reported transfer targets up close.
Recent reports indicate that Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba has emerged as a potential target for the Reds.
According to talkSPORT, Liverpool are interested in signing Baleba in 2025 but will face competition from Arsenal and Tottenham.
The Cameroon international has made 10 appearances for Brighton this season, scoring twice and contributing two assists for Fabian Hurzeler’s team.
Baleba joined Brighton in the summer of 2023 from Lille in a deal reportedly worth around £23 million.
The 20-year-old was tentatively linked with a move away from the Amex Stadium in the summer after a successful first season in English football.
It remains to be seen which midfield lineup Arne Slot will choose for the two games against Brighton in the Carabao Cup and Premier League.
However, it’s likely that the Reds’ head coach will make adjustments in the middle of the park for both fixtures.
For Brighton, Hurzeler has started Baleba in nine of the 11 games so far this season, including both Carabao Cup fixtures against Crawley and Wolves.
If this trend continues, Liverpool could find themselves facing a potential transfer target twice within the same week.
