Ibrahima Konate had fans in stitches with his lighthearted response after being playfully snubbed by RB Leipzig on Wednesday night.
The Liverpool defender contributed to the Reds’ 1-0 victory over his former club in the Champions League, reuniting with fellow ex-Leipzig player Dominik Szoboszlai.
However, while Szoboszlai received a special gift from his old club, Konaté was left empty-handed.
Szoboszlai was presented with a red bull statue as a memento, prompting Konate to express his feelings in a humorous way.
In the comments section of Leipzig’s post featuring Szoboszlai and his prize, Konaté simply replied with ‘…’, showcasing his playful disappointment at being overlooked.
“Nice seeing you home again,’ the club had written of Szoboszlai.
“Wishing you all the best for the future.”
After seeing Ibrahima Konate’s reaction, the social media admin quickly worked to allay any fears of a rift.
“You are still one of us,” they replied to Konate, prompting more than 100 fans to respond, mostly with crying or laughing emojis.
The French international spent four seasons with RB Leipzig between 2017 and 2021, helping the team consistently finish in the top three and reach the Champions League semi-finals.
This tenure was actually longer than Dominik Szoboszlai’s, who spent only three seasons with Die Roten Bullen before joining Liverpool last summer.
At least Ibrahima Konate had the last laugh over Leipzig, as Liverpool climbed to second place in their Champions League group with a third consecutive win.
Darwin Nunez scored his second goal of the season, tapping home Mo Salah’s header in the 27th minute.
The result means that Arne Slot has won his first three Champions League games and 11 of his first 12 overall as Reds boss, a better start than Kenny Dalglish had.
Great to see you back in Leipzig, Szobo! 🤗
