Ibrahima Konate turns down lucrative transfer offer

The French international is now in the final year of his contract at Anfield

Liverpool centre-back Ibrahima Konate has turned down a lucrative offer from an unnamed Saudi Pro League club, reaffirming his desire to remain in Europe, according to the Mirror.

The French international is now in the final year of his contract at Anfield, but contract renewal talks with Liverpool have reportedly stalled in recent months.

Real Madrid are believed to be monitoring Konate closely and could pursue the defender on a free transfer next summer, following their recent signing of Trent Alexander-Arnold from Arne Slot’s champions.

Last week, Konate’s representatives were approached by a Saudi club expressing interest in signing the former RB Leipzig defender this summer.

However, Konate declined to engage in negotiations, emphasizing his commitment to continuing his career at the highest level in Europe.

Had he shown any openness to the move, the interested club would likely have initiated formal talks with Liverpool.

The Reds are eager to resolve Konate’s contract situation, but it seems the 26-year-old may be holding out for a move to Real Madrid. From January 1, he will be free to speak with Los Blancos directly.

Liverpool are also planning to strengthen their central defence before the transfer window closes, having recently sold Jarell Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen for £35million.

Although short in numbers at the heart of defence, Wataru Endo is seen as potential cover alongside Joe Gomez, with Andy Robertson filling in at left centre-back during their friendly win over Preston.

Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi is on Liverpool’s shortlist, and they have also expressed interest in Ajax’s Holland U21 international Jorrel Hato.

It remains unclear whether Liverpool would entertain offers for Konate this summer, given the uncertain status of his contract, and no formal bids have been received to date.

Currently, the champions appear to be prioritizing the signing of a marquee attacker.

They have made an enquiry for Newcastle’s talisman Alexander Isak, although the Magpies are reluctant to sell.

As an alternative, Liverpool are considering a move for Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike if Newcastle remain firm.

Newcastle have already rejected a bid worth up to £69million, including add-ons, for Ekitike, whom they hope to keep alongside Isak at St James’ Park.

Meanwhile, Liverpool have turned down an initial offer from Bayern Munich for Luis Diaz, reported to be worth around £58.6million.

The Colombian international is thought to be open to a move, but Liverpool value him significantly higher and wish to retain him.

Napoli have also expressed interest in Darwin Núñez, who has attracted fresh attention from Middle Eastern clubs.

However, the Italians have yet to come close to meeting Liverpool’s asking price.
