Jamie Carragher hits out at Trent Alexander Arnold and his agents for Real Madrid reports

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has criticized Trent Alexander-Arnold’s camp for “covering themselves” in light of increasing speculation about the right-back’s potential move to Real Madrid.

Reports suggest that Real Madrid made an informal approach to sign Alexander-Arnold in January, aiming to secure the England international on a free transfer when his contract expires in the summer.

The Spanish giants are reportedly confident of landing the Liverpool star, but Carragher has suggested the timing of the bid might be strategic.

Jamie Carragher wrote on X: “The most important thing for @LFC in 2025 is winning the #PremierLeague.

“No one’s contract or future should come in the way of that!

“I love Trent as a lad & a player, but his team would’ve told Real Madrid to bid & also would’ve known LFC would turn it down.

“It’s to try & cover themselves when he leaves for free.

“Again it’s something the club/fans don’t need with a huge game coming up.”

As speculation swirls, Liverpool fans will hope the situation surrounding Alexander-Arnold doesn’t derail their momentum in what promises to be a pivotal period of the season.

Liverpool will face Manchester United on Sunday and have the opportunity to extend their lead to seven points over one of the surprise packages of the Premier League season, Nottingham Forest
