Jeremy Jacquet makes clear Virgil van Dijk verdict

Jeremy Jacquet has made a strong impression since arriving at Liverpool, stepping in for fellow Frenchman Ibrahima Konate

Jeremy Jacquet has praised his Liverpool centre-back partner Virgil van Dijk following the pair’s impressive start together at Anfield.

The 21-year-old has made a strong impression since arriving at Liverpool, stepping in for fellow Frenchman Ibrahima Konate.

Despite his age, Jacquet has looked calm and composed in both the Premier League and Champions League.

There is already hope that he could eventually succeed Van Dijk, whose contract expires at the end of the season. For now, however, the pair will look to combine their experience and youth to help Liverpool challenge at the top.

Speaking to French outlet Telefoot during the international break, Jeremy Jacquet discussed playing alongside Van Dijk, underlining his admiration for the Liverpool captain.

“Everything is going well at the moment,” he reflected when asked about how his time at Anfield has managed to go so far, following his transfer switch from Rennes.

“Playing alongside Van Dijk is really special when you know what a defender he is,” Jacquet continued. “Very few defenders have reached his level.”

Liverpool’s centre-back options could soon face further competition with Giovanni Leoni nearing a return from injury.

Ronald Araujo and Joe Gomez also remain options, although both have uncertain long-term futures.

With several contracts and decisions to be made, the coming months could prove crucial in shaping Liverpool’s defence for years to come.
