Ayew’s late winner stuns the Saints, Man United beat Brentford in Premier league matchweek 8
Saturday's Premier League 3pm kick offs saw 4 away wins as Aston Villa, Everton, Brighton and Leicester all secure 3 points on the road on matchweek 8
Premier League matchweek 8 was a good day for traveling teams with Aston Villa beating Fulham 3-1 at the Craven Cottage, Everton making the trip down to Norfolk to beat newcomers Ipswich by 2-0, Brighton pipping Newcastle by a goal to nil at St. James Park, while Leicester City scored 3 second half goals to turn a 0-2 deficit into a remarkable win.
Manchester United 2-1 Brentford.
The visitors took the lead in stoppage time of the first half through a thumping header by defender Ethan Pinnock from Mikkel Damsgaard’s corner kick.
However, second-half goals from Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund saw the Red Devils rescue the three points against the Bees at Old Trafford sending them into the top half of the premier league table.

For long spells in the first half, it looked like it was going to be another frustrating day for the hosts as Brentford kept them at bay, limiting their attack with little to feed on. Thomas Frank’s side grew into the game and with threats of scoring the match’s opening goal. The deserved goal came just before halftime. Man United returned for the second half with a repeat of last season’s result on their mind. Garnacho who was excused from International duty with Argentina got the host back on level terms 3 minutes into the half meeting Marcus Rashford’s cross at the far post. Rasmus Hojlund completed the comeback just after the hour mark after being picked up by captain Bruno Fernandes.
Fulham 1-3 Aston Villa
Raúl Jiménez’s 5th-minute opener for the host on matchweek 8 was shortlived as Morgan Rogers equalized within 4 minutes for Aston Villa before Ollie Watkins (59th minute) and an Issa Diop own goal (69th minute) secured a convincing win for Unai Emery’s side.
Fulham could have restored their lead before the half-hour mark, however, Andreas Pereira missed the opportunity from the spot leaving the watching home fans frustrated.

London, England. Saturday 19 October 2024
Aston Villa’s second-half dominance saw them score twice. England international Ollie Watkins just scored before the hour from a Youri Tielemans assist. And the visitors put the game beyond Fulham with a third. Issa Diop putting the ball into his own net with his first touch after coming on a minute earlier.
The victory moves Aston Villa into fourth on the table with 17 points having played a game more than their top 4 rivals.
Newcastle 0-1 Brighton and Hove Albion
Brighton & Hove Albion surged to within touching distance of the Premier League’s top four after Danny Welbeck proved the difference in a battling 1-0 away win over Newcastle United.

Newcastle threatened in the opening stages but Welbeck punished Eddie Howe’s hosts slack defending with a well-taken 35th-minute opener after linking up with Georginio Rutter. Despite having Alexander Isak back from injury, the Magpies struggled to break down the Seagulls with Isak, Anthony Gordon, and Sandro Tonali all coming close on different occasions.
The hosts will rue a dominant showing at home after this setback left them without a win in four league matches and 8th on the premier league table.
Southampton 2-3 Leicester City
Substitute Jordan Ayew’s right-footed shot from the centre of the box to the bottom right corner in the 90+8 minutes saw a stunning comeback for the Foxes in a thrilling 3-2 encounter in the Southcoast.

Jordan Ayew celebrates the late winner against Southampton
Southampton took an early lead in the eighth minute through Cameron Archer. Joe Aribo doubled the lead for the host just before the half-hour.
The second half saw the introduction of former Spurs midfielder Harry Winks replacing Oliver Skipp, and Abdul Fatawu coming on in place of Victor Kristiansen. The changes yielded instant results. Abdul Fatawu assisted Facundo Buonanotte in reducing the deficit. The Ghanaian should have scored shortly afterwards. His left-footed shot from outside the box hit the bar before seeing his close-range header being parried away by Ramsdale in goal for the Saints.
Fatawu’s pace and trickery caused problems down the left for Southampton as the Foxes kept pushing for an equalizer. Captain Jamie Vardy won a penalty after VAR confirmation in the 72nd minute which saw Ryan Fraser sent off 10 minutes after coming on Yukinari Sugawara. Vardy scored from the spot to bring his side on level terms.
An eventful day at St. Marys’s looked to be heading for a pulsating 2-2 draw, but Jordan Ayew decided to have a last say. The substitute snatched the winner deep into stoppage time for the Foxes’ second league win of the season on matchweek 8
