Jurgen Klopp warns Liverpool risk being ‘exposed’ under Arne Slot

The Dutchman has enjoyed a dream start, winning seven straight games this season after lifting the Premier League title last year

Jurgen Klopp has warned that Liverpool risk being “exposed” under Arne Slot.

The Dutchman has enjoyed a dream start, winning seven straight games this season after lifting the Premier League title last year.

But a 2-1 loss at Crystal Palace on Saturday revealed early cracks.

Ismaila Sarr struck first from a corner, and though Federico Chiesa equalised late on, Eddie Nketiah’s stoppage-time winner sealed Liverpool’s first defeat of the season.

Jurgen Klopp, observing from afar, suggested Slot’s high-tempo style can leave gaps for opponents, especially at set pieces – an issue Palace exploited.

Liverpool now face Galatasaray in Turkey on Tuesday in what could be an early test of Slot’s ability to address vulnerabilities. Klopp’s warning will loom large if similar weaknesses appear in Istanbul.

In an interview with The Athletic, he said: “[Man] City is on the way back, they change a little bit. Managers need that as well… a new way of looking at things to keep it fresh.

“Liverpool is playing a specific (style), so really, really good. Very offensive oriented.

“Do they take the risk a little bit of being exposed? Different ways to go, let me say it like that.

“I’m not the pope of football who tells people what to do. At least not outside the Red Bull world.”
