Kevin De Bruyne reportedly eyeing move to MLS amid contract uncertainty with Man City

The Manchester City star's contract expires in 2025

Kevin De Bruyne is reportedly considering a move to Major League Soccer (MLS), with the new project at San Diego FC particularly appealing to the Manchester City star.

This comes after the Belgian midfielder was heavily linked with a transfer to Saudi Arabia during the summer, even agreeing to personal terms with one Saudi Pro League club before those rumors faded.

With less than a year remaining on his contract at City, De Bruyne’s future remains a topic of considerable speculation.

According to Sky Sports journalist Sacha Tavolieri, the midfielder is “unlikely” to extend his stay at the Etihad Stadium, potentially marking the end of his decade-long tenure at the club.

Instead of heading to Saudi Arabia, the United States seems to be his preferred destination.

Kevin De Bruyne has expressed interest in a “concrete” proposal from San Diego FC, which is set to join the league in 2025.

At 33 years old, he has reportedly grown weary of the “intensity and frenetic pace” of English football and is drawn to the more relaxed atmosphere in the U.S.

This shift has also been highlighted by Lionel Messi’s successful transition to the MLS during the twilight of his career.

Additionally, San Diego FC could offer De Bruyne a salary comparable to his current earnings at Manchester City.

Reports indicate that his wife, Michele Lacroix, is not keen on raising their three children in Saudi Arabia.

However, she believes a move to the United States would provide a more peaceful environment for their family.

As for De Bruyne’s current status, he has not played since September 18 due to a groin injury and will miss the upcoming Champions League fixture against Sparta Prague.

Pep Guardiola has been unable to provide a timeline for his return, leaving fans eager for updates on the Belgian international’s recovery.
