Arne Slot has downplayed concerns over Liverpool’s center-back options despite their 4-2 pre-season defeat to AC Milan on Saturday.
The Reds fell to a loss in Hong Kong, with the manner in which they conceded goals giving Slot plenty to consider.
Virgil van Dijk, in particular, faced criticism from supporters for his positioning on Rafael Leao’s opening goal.
Liverpool’s situation was further complicated by Joe Gomez’s return to the UK due to an injury sustained in Asia, although Slot played down the seriousness of Gomez’s Achilles issue before the game.
Gomez’s absence left Liverpool short of centre-back options against Milan, with Wataru Endo also sidelined due to illness.
Ryan Gravenberch was deployed alongside Van Dijk in the first half, while Kostas Tsimikas partnered Ibrahima Konate after the break.
Despite these adjustments, Liverpool conceded three goals in the second half.
Calls have grown for the club to sign a new centre-back as soon as possible, even amid recent speculation that a deal for Alexander Isak could still materialize this summer.
However, Slot was quick to downplay the urgency of bringing in a new defender, insisting that the squad currently has sufficient options to cover.
The Dutchman said: “I’m looking to my left and I don’t think we have a concern at centre-back!
“In terms of depth? I think Ryan [Gravenberch] showed today, by the way, that he can play in that position.
“He did it last season as well. Although we all know we favour him as a No.6. Wata [Endo] can play there.
“Joe Gomez only has a minor injury, he has been good for us last season as well. We have enough options left. But it’s true that Jarell Quansah left and we haven’t replaced him yet.”
