Liverpool could make late attempt to sign Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo

Recent reports suggested Pep Guardiola’s side are close to signing the 26-year-old, who scored a late winner in Bournemouth’s dramatic 3-2 victory over Tottenham

Former Liverpool midfielder and Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp claims Liverpool have made a late move for Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo, amid reports linking the winger with Manchester City.

Recent reports suggested Pep Guardiola’s side are close to signing the 26-year-old, who scored a late winner in Bournemouth’s dramatic 3-2 victory over Tottenham.

Andoni Iraola has since hinted that Semenyo could be nearing an exit from the Vitality Stadium.

When asked by Sky Sports if that was Semenyo’s last goal in a Bournemouth shirt, Iraola said: “It looks like it yes. Obviously, you have to do the medical and formalities but, I’m afraid to say because I don’t want to lose him.

“I think it’s going to be his last moments with us. He’s a top professional. We’re not [just] losing an incredible player but one of the best I’ve coached, he’s ready for anything.”

However, Redknapp believes a move to City is not yet certain, with Liverpool also said to be in the race for the Ghana international.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Redknapp said: “I’m not so sure. I’ve heard there might be a little bit of a twist. I think Liverpool could still be in the equation.

“I think that, I’ve got to be honest, I think if they did come in – why they perhaps haven’t come in as strongly, I’m surprised.

“If you look at that position, with Mohamed Salah and how long he’s going to be at the club for, we don’t quite know. If you’ve got a player of that quality and he shows he’s a match- winner, he turns up in the big moments.

“Why wouldn’t you be in for him? I’m not saying it’s a a Sky Sports breaking news moment, but all I’m saying is, I’ve heard tonight that it might not be the forgone conclusion that he’s going to be having a medical at Man City.

“There might still be a little twist and I hope so.”
