Liverpool defender signs new deal and joins Derby County on loan

Beck featured regularly in England’s second tier last season while on loan at Blackburn Rovers

Owen Beck has penned a new long-term contract with Liverpool before completing a season-long loan move to Derby County.

The Welsh left-back, who has progressed through Liverpool’s Academy and made three senior appearances for the Reds, will spend the 2025-26 campaign in the Championship with the Rams.

Beck featured regularly in England’s second tier last season while on loan at Blackburn Rovers, making 25 appearances – 24 of which came under the management of current Derby boss John Eustace.

The 22-year-old has also had previous loan spells at Famalicão, Bolton Wanderers, and Dundee.

He made his Liverpool debut in October 2021, coming off the bench in a Carabao Cup tie against Preston North End.

Beck said: “Obviously, I know the gaffer well from last year. I spoke to him with that experience of working with him before in mind. It moved pretty fast and was a no-brainer for me.

“We built a really good connection. I feel like he got the best out of me. When he called up and we had that conversation again where he was looking to bring me in, it was a no-brainer, really!

“I enjoyed playing under him. As I said, I feel like he got the best out of me. I feel like he can get even more out of me this season, and I can push that step further.

He added: “It’s a really tough league that has a lot of quality. There are no easy games in the league. It was good for me to be playing at this level week in, week out last season.

“I feel like I had a good season. I feel like I can take it that step further and show everyone what I’m really about.

“I think the main thing is doing my job going forward and defensively. I’d say they’re both as important as each other. Defensively, I like to win my 1v1 duels and always come out on top.

“Going forward, I like to get goals and assists. That’ll be one of my main targets this year, to make sure I succeed in that area. It’s definitely somewhere where I feel like I can improve on from last year.”

“First and foremost, I want to play games. I want to play and stay injury-free. In the game, I’m going to set myself personal goals. Also, I’m sure the gaffer will have goals that he wants the team to achieve.

“Hopefully, I can hit my personal goals and help the team achieve theirs too.”
