Arne Slot has suffered another setback with Cody Gakpo facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
The forward was among several players who did not travel to Italy for Tuesday’s Champions League clash with Inter.
Federico Chiesa missed out through illness, Wataru Endo is managing a fitness issue, and Mohamed Salah was left at home following his explosive post-Leeds interview.
Cody Gakpo, taken off in the 83rd minute of the 3-3 draw at Leeds, has now been diagnosed with an injury that will keep him out until at least Christmas.
With attacking options thin, Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike are expected to be the only senior forwards available and Liverpool have not completely ruled out Chiesa making the squad.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference on Monday evening, Slot explained: “Federico is ill, so that is poor timing you could say. But it’s not something you can do anything about.
“So, we are monitoring his situation. If he has an amazing recovery – which I, we, doctors don’t expect – he might travel tomorrow. But let’s have a fair expectation, that’s not what I expect.
“And Cody Gakpo unfortunately picked up an injury in the last game we played against Leeds and he will be out for a few weeks.”
